O2S Test Result

To view the Heated Oxygen Sensor (O2S) status, the O2S test result (mode 05) allows the OBD IIscan tool to display the test values and test limits of the O2S. The test values are displayed after the vehicle has driven to run the O2S monitor. If one of the test values is not between the test limits, the ECM (PCM) interprets this as the O2S malfunction. When the O2S is not malfunction, if the difference of the test value and test limit is very small, the O2S will malfunction in the near future.

Perform the following instruction to view the O2S status. Although this instruction references the Lexus/Toyota diagnostic tester, it can be checked using a generic OBD II scan tool. Refer to your scan tool operator's manual for specific procedures.

O2S test data for front O2S (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

No data. This vehicle is equipped with an A/F sensor.

O2S test data for rear O2S (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

O2S TEST RESULT

Test ID Description Conversion Factor Unit Note
$07 Minimum O2S voltage Multiply by 0.005 V -
$08 Maximum O2S voltage Multiply by 0.005 V
$31 Switch time from lean to rich Multiply by 0.04 sec. These values are not used for malfunction judgment.
$32 Switch time from rich to lean Multiply by 0.04 sec.
$37 Switch time from rich to lean during fuel-cut Multiply by 0.04 sec.
$39 Switch time from 0.35 V to 0.2 V during fuel-cut Multiply by 0.04 sec.
$81 Percentage of monitoring time when O2S voltage Less than 0.05 V Multiply by 0.3906 % -
$84 Percentage of monitoring time when O2S voltage more than 0.7 V Multiply by 0.3906 %
$85 Maximum rich time Multiply by 0.2621 sec.
$87 Percentage of monitoring time when O2S voltage 0.45 V or more Multiply by 0.3906 %
  1. PERFORM O2S MONITOR
NOTE: The test values will be lost if the ignition switch is turned OFF.
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Clear DTCs.
    3. Start the engine and run the vehicle according to the drive pattern listed below.

  2. ACCESS O2S TEST RESULT
NOTE: The monitor result of the A/F sensor will not be displayed. If you select "Bank 1 - Sensor 1" or "Bank 2 - Sensor 1" for a vehicle equipped with an A/F sensor, the diagnostic tester will display "No parameter to display".
    1. Select from the intelligent tester menus: DIAGNOSIS, CARB OBD II and O2S TEST RESULT.
    2. Select the desired O2S and press ENTER.
    3. Select a test data and press asterisk and HELP simultaneously to view the test value description.

  3. CHECK O2S STATUS

Check that the Cur Val is between Min Val and Max Val.

    • Min Val: Minimum test limit
    • Max Val: Maximum test limit
    • Cur Val: Test value

    Cur Val (Test Value) Conclusion
Between minimum and maximum values Normal
Not between minimum and maximum values Malfunction
Very near to minimum or maximum values Malfunction in near future
