Park / Neutral Position Switch: Adjustment

  1. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Apply the parking brake and turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    2. Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine starts when the shift lever is set in the N or P position, but does not start in other positions.
    3. Check that the back-up light comes on and the reverse warning buzzer sounds when the shift lever is set in the R position, but do not function in other positions.

      If a failure is found, check the switch for continuity.

  2. ADJUST PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Loosen the 2 bolts of the switch and move the shift lever to the N position.
    2. Align the groove and neutral basic line.
    3. Hold the switch in position and tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf) 

    4. After adjustment, perform the inspection described in the switch procedures.
