Knock Sensor: Removal

  1. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE  (See REMOVAL )
  2. DRAIN COOLANT  (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )
  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  4. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM HEAD CAP  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM LH  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM RH  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE HOOD TO COWL TOP SEAL  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER LH  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE WIPER LINK  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE COWL TOP PANEL OUTER 
    1. Remove the wire harness clamp.
    2. Remove the 7 bolts and panel.

  11. REMOVE COWL BODY MOUNTING BRACKET LOWER LH 
    1. Remove the bolt, clip and bracket.
  12. REMOVE ENGINE COVER  (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )
  13. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP  (See REMOVAL )
  14. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY  (See REMOVAL )
  15. REMOVE FUEL DELIVERY PIPE  (See REMOVAL )

  16. REMOVE FUEL TUBE 
    1. Remove the fuel tube clamp.
    2. Pinch the retainer as illustrated, and then pull the fuel tube connector out of the pipe.
      NOTE:
      • Remove any dirt and foreign objects on the fuel tube connector before performing this work.

      • When disconnecting the connector, do not damage the connector and pipe, and do not allow foreign matter to contact the connector and pipe. Damage or foreign matter may damage the O-ring that seals the pipe and lead to leaks.
      • Perform this work by hand. Do not use any tools.
      • Do not forcibly bend, twist or turn the nylon tube.
      • Protect the disconnected part by covering it with a plastic bag after disconnecting the fuel tube.
      • If the fuel tube connector and pipe are stuck, push and pull to release them.

  17. REMOVE HEATER WATER INLET HOSE 
    1. Remove the hose clamp.

    2. Remove the heater water inlet hose from the heater radiator unit and cylinder head.

  18. REMOVE HEATER WATER OUTLET HOSE 
    1. Remove the heater water outlet hose from the heater radiator unit and water by-pass pipe.

  19. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD 
    1. Disconnect the union to check valve hose from the brake booster.

    2. Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.
    3. Remove the wire harness clamp.
    4. Remove the union to check valve hose from the vacuum hose clamp.
    5. Remove the 5 bolts, 2 nuts and intake manifold.

    6. Remove the gasket from the intake manifold.

  20. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the intake manifold insulator from the cylinder block.

  21. REMOVE KNOCK SENSOR 
    1. Disconnect the sensor connector.
    2. Remove the nut and sensor.
