Air Injection System: Description
The air injection systems' purpose is to reduce exhaust emissions by oxidizing hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide during cold engine operation. The system is composed of an air suction valve, thermosensor, solenoid valve, check valve, air filter, various hoses and tubing, and an electronic control module.
There are three types of air suction valves being used with the air injection system. On California models the air suction valve (ASV-I) includes a cut-off valve. Federal models with 2WD have two air suction valves (ASV-I) with cut-off valves and one air suction valve without a cut-off valve (ASV-II). On Federal 4WD models the air suction valve (ASV-III) does not include a cut-off valve.
