Diagnostic Tools

The ECC system does not require special tools for diagnosis. A dwell meter (set on 4-cylinder scale), volt/ohmmeter, 1.5 volt flashlight battery and a stethoscope or listening tube are the only tools required for diagnosis.

The dwell meter is used to check operation of the duty cycle solenoid. For procedures, see Subaru Systems & Tune-Up article in this section.
