Knock Control System

The knocking control system consists of a knock sensor, knock control unit, and distributor with a built-in IC ignitor. It optimizes the ignition timing so the engine may develop the maximum output with minimal fuel consumption and without causing a knock.

When a knock occurs in the engine, the knock sensor detects its vibration and sends a signal to the knock control unit. The unit, which detects the knocking signal, determines its intensity and sends a timing retard signal to the IC ignitor unit in the distributor. Thus, the ignition timing is adjusted to the moment just before the knocking occurs.
