Engine Performance: System: Turbocharger: Description
The turbocharging system is designed to be effective at low engine speed with larger torque for enhancing both fuel efficiency and power output. To prevent knocking and heavier thermal loads on the engine, the turbocharger has been equipped with a wastegate which diverts exhaust gases to reduce maximum boost pressure.
An additional safety device, the air relief valve, is mounted on the intake manifold. This device will discharge excessive boost pressure to atmosphere if wastegate fails.
