Federal Carbureted 2WD & Calif. Carbureted Models

  1. Release connector at solenoid. Check resistance between positive and negative terminals. Specified resistance is 32.7-39.9 ohms. Check resistance between positive and negative terminals and body ground. Specified resistance is 1000 ohms or more.
  2. Check vacuum passage for opening and closing operation while applying electric current to both positive and negative solenoid terminals. If all checks are within specified ranges and operation is satisfactory, solenoid valve is okay. If solenoid fails any of the checks, replacement is necessary.
NOTE: When electrical current to solenoid is on, distributor vacuum signal is bled off to atmosphere. When electrical current to solenoid is off, atmospheric bleed is closed and vacuum signal reaches distributor.
