Repair and Diagnosis: Transmission: Clutches: Description
The teeth surfaces on the clutch disc's splines are treated with a "Kanigen" coating to improve clutch operation and reduce friction. On the 4WD models, the diameter and width of the clutch disc's spline are increased. The damper characteristics of the clutch disc have been revised to reduce noise and vibration.
On 4WD models, the clutch lever ratio is 3 to 1 to accommodate the high clutch pressure load and improve clutch operation. On 2WD models, the clutch lever ratio is 2 to 1. The release bearing has a self-aligning design. A nickel-phosphorus alloy coating, which results in a hard and even surface treatment and features anti-corrosion characteristics, has been added.
