Tilt Mechanism: Disassembly

  1. Disconnect tension cords. Place wheel in full upright position. Remove cords and balance springs. Remove "U" joint clamp bolt. Loosen lower bearing screws. Remove "U" joint shaft and bearing downward as a unit.
  2. Remove snap ring, washer, "O" ring, bearing and housing from "U" joint shaft. Remove ignition switch bolts. Detach switch and U" joint shaft from tilt bracket.
  3. Using a sharp screwdriver, remove inner stop ring from ignition switch. Remove inner needle bearing and race. Remove inner spring washer.
  4. Remove outer stop ring, washer, needle bearing, race and outer spring washer. Remove tilt lever spring and plate. Remove lock gear and lever as a unit.
  5. Remove lever snap ring, washer and shaft. Remove tilt bracket pivot bolt and bushing. Remove tilt bracket. Remove lock gear shaft and lever shaft.
