Code 35: Purge Control Solenoid Valve

NOTE: Refer to illustration for ECU connector and terminal identification. See Figure .
  1. Connect test mode connector. Connector is located under left side of instrument panel. See Figure under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Turn ignition on. Check purge control solenoid valve for operation. If clicking noise is heard from solenoid, check for poor ECU connector contact. Repair connector and/or wiring harness as necessary. If connector and wiring harness are okay, replace ECU. If no clicking noise is heard from solenoid, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect purge control solenoid valve. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 2 (Red wire) of purge control solenoid connector. If voltage is more than 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 9 volts, repair wiring harness as necessary.
  3. Measure resistance between purge control solenoid terminals. With temperature at 68°F (20°C), resistance should be 30-50 ohms. If resistance is 30-50 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 30-50 ohms, replace purge control solenoid valve.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECU connectors. Measure resistance of Blue/Red wire between ECU connector F119, terminal No. 22 and purge control solenoid valve connector. If resistance is less than one ohm, go to next step. If resistance is more than one ohm, repair connector and/or wiring harness.
  5. Measure resistance between ground and ECU connector F119, terminal No. 22 (Blue/Red wire). If resistance is infinite, go to next step. If resistance is not infinite, repair connector and/or wiring harness as necessary.
  6. Measure resistance between ground and ECU connector F119, terminal No. 13 (Black/Blue wire), and between ground and ECU connector F119, terminal No. 26 (Black/Blue wire). If both resistances are less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If either resistance is more than 10 ohms, repair connector and/or wiring harness as necessary.
  7. Reconnect ECU and purge control solenoid valve connectors. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and ECU connector F119, terminal No. 22 (Blue/Red wire). Voltage should fluctuate 0.5-8 volts at 0.5 second intervals. If voltage fluctuates as described, replace ECU. If voltage does not fluctuate as described, repair connector and/or wiring harness as necessary.
