DTC P0500 (VSP) - Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction

NOTE: Refer to illustration for connector and terminal identification. See Figure -Figure .
  1. If speedometer operation is abnormal, check power supply for combination meter, check ground supply for combination meter, check ground circuit for combination meter, check harness connector between combination meter and vehicle speed sensor (VSS). Repair or replace parts as necessary. If speedometer operation is normal, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition to OFF. Disconnect ECM connector. Turn ignition to ON. Measure voltage between ECM connector B84, terminal No. 57 and ground. if voltage is less than 2 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 2 volts or more, check and repair as necessary, open circuit in harness between ECM connector and combination meter connector, poor contact in ECM connector, poor contact in combination meter connector or poor contact in coupling connector B37, between ECM and combination meter connector.
  3. Turn ignition to OFF. Disconnect connector from ECM. Measure resistance between ECM connector B84, terminal No. 57 and ground. if resistance is more than 10 ohms, repair poor contact in ECM connector. If resistance is 10 ohms or less, repair short in harness between ECM connector and combination meter connector.
