DTC P0446 (VCMSOL_Lo): EVAP Emission Control System Vent Control Low Input

  1. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM connected to chassis ground, backprobe ECM connector terminal No. 35. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If voltage reading is 10 volts or more, circuit is normal. Ensure connector at ECM and other connectors in circuit have good contact. If voltage reading is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect vent control solenoid connector and ECM connector. Check resistance between vent control solenoid connector terminal No. 2 and ground. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, repair short to ground. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to step 4).
  3. Check resistance between vent control solenoid connector terminal No. 2 and ECM terminal No. 35. If resistance is less than 1 ohm, go to next step. If resistance is 1 ohm or more, repair wiring.
  4. Turn ignition off. Check resistance between vent control solenoid terminal No. 1 and No. 2. If resistance is 10-100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 ohms or more than 100 ohms, replace vent control solenoid.
  5. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM connected to chassis ground, check voltage at vent control solenoid connector terminal No. 1. If voltage reading is less than 10 volts, repair wiring between ECM and vent control solenoid connectors. If voltage is 10 volts or more, check for poor terminal contact between vent control solenoid terminals.
