Ignition Timing

  1. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature and idle speed is correct. Shift transaxle to Neutral (M/T) or Park (A/T) position. Connect timing light to No. 1 spark plug wire.
  2. Observe timing marks, located on crankshaft pulley. See IGNITION TIMING SPECIFICATIONS  table. If timing is not as specified, check self-diagnostic system for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Repair as necessary. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article.

    (1) To improve stability, timing is controlled while engine is idling. Timing range is plus or minus 8 degrees (all vehicles).
