Check Engine Speed Signal

  1. 9E1: CHECK ENGINE SPEED SIGNAL. 
    1. Turn A/C switch to OFF (with A/C models).
    2. Warm-up the engine until engine coolant temperature is above 80°C (176°F).
      NOTE: If ambient temperature is below 0°C (32°F), drive the vehicle until the ATF reaches its operating temperature.
    3. Read data of engine speed using Subaru Select Monitor.
      • Engine speed is indicated in "RPM".
    NOTE: The speed difference between front and rear wheels may light the ABS warning light, but this indicates no malfunction. When AT control diagnosis is finished, perform the ABS memory clearance procedure of on-board diagnostics system. See CLEARING MEMORY-ABS .

    CHECK: Does the tachometer revolution indication increase as the Subaru Select Monitor revolution data increases? 

    1. YES:  Go to step ATF temperature sensor. See CHECK ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR  .
    2. NO:  Check engine speed signal circuit, see DTC 11: ENGINE SPEED SIGNAL  .
