2.2L & 2.5L

  1. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature and idle speed is correct. Shift transaxle to Neutral (M/T) or Park (A/T) position. Connect timing light to No. 1 spark plug wire.
  2. Observe timing marks, located on crankshaft pulley. See IGNITION TIMING SPECIFICATIONS  table. If timing is not as specified, perform Basic Diagnostic Procedure. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article. Repair as necessary.
    IGNITION TIMING SPECIFICATIONS (1) (Degrees BTDC @ RPM)

    Application Auto. Trans. Man. Trans.
    2.2L & 2.5L 15 @ 700 10 @ 650
    3.0L (2) 10 @ 600 .....
    (1) To improve stability, timing is controlled while engine is idling. Timing range is plus or minus 8 degrees (3 degrees on 3.0L).
    (2) Timing must be checked using a scan tool.
