Ignition Timing: 3.0L

  1. Ensure air cleaner element is not clogged or restricted, spark plugs are in good condition and all vacuum hoses are connected. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature and idle speed is correct. Verify Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) is not illuminated. Shift transaxle to Park position. Turn ignition off and install scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) located on left side of instrument panel, below hood release lever.
  2. Turn ignition on. Power up scan tool. Select EACH SYSTEM CHECK in main menu on scan tool. Select ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM in selection menu on scan tool. Select CURRENT DATA DISPLAY & SAVE in engine control system diagnosis menu on scan tool. Select DATA DISPLAY in data display menu on scan tool. Start engine and allow to idle. Read ignition timing on scan tool. See IGNITION TIMING SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  3. If timing is not as specified, perform Basic Diagnostic Procedure. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article. Repair as necessary. Turn ignition off and remove scan tool.
