Remote Transmitter Programming
NOTE:
When programming transmitters, make sure no one else is operating a keyless entry system within range of your vehicle. If someone were to operate his remote transmitter while you are programming the vehicle's transmitters, then that transmitter code could be programmed into your system, allowing him unauthorized access to the vehicle.
The keyless entry system is equipped with a special code learning feature that allows you to program new transmitter codes into the system or to delete old ones. Up to 4 transmitters can be programmed. It is recommended that a dealer program transmitters. The system can learn up to 4 unique transmitter codes. The 4 transmitter codes may be the same or different.
NOTE:
Perform programming when the transmitter is replaced or when an additional transmitter is required. Finish operation from step (1) through step (4) within 45 seconds.
To enter the programming mode:
- Disarm the security system (if equipped). Open driver's door. Sit on the driver's seat.
- Close driver's door and all other doors, rear gate and trunk lid.
- Place the ignition key into ignition switch and cycle the switch from LOCK to ON 10 times within 15 seconds. Be sure to stop at the LOCK position. See Fig 1
.NOTE: The horn will chirp once to indicate that the system has entered the programming mode. Do not start the engine at this time.NOTE: You must finish the next step (opening the driver's door) within 45 seconds of starting the PROGRAMMING procedure.
To program transmitters:
- Open driver's door.
- Close driver's door.
- Press and release any transmitter button that you wish to program into the system. Horn will chirp twice to indicate that the transmitter has been programmed.
To exit programming mode:
- After all transmitters are programmed, remove ignition key from the ignition switch. The horn will sound 3 times to indicate that the system has exited the programming mode.
- Make sure the keyless entry system properly operates by testing each transmitter.
Deleting old transmitter codes:
- The keyless entry system's control unit has 4 memory locations to store transmitter codes, giving it the ability to operate with up to 4 transmitters. If a transmitter is lost, the lost transmitter's code remains in memory. For security reasons, delete this code from memory.
- To delete old transmitter codes, program all 4 transmitter codes into the system. If there's only one transmitter, program it 4 times. If there are 2 current transmitters, program each twice. If there are 3 current transmitters, program 2 of the transmitters once and the third one, twice. This process will leave only current transmitter codes in the system's memory.
