Compulsory Valve Operation Check Mode

NOTE: This mode of operation is provided for Subaru Select Monitor (SSM) users. Information is not available for this mode for scan tool users. For detailed information, refer to scan tool manufacturer's operating manual.

The compulsory valve operation check mode may also be referred to as actuator test mode. In this mode of operation, specific relays and solenoid valves can be commanded on and off to aid in diagnostics. This procedure should be used only when directed by specific test instructions.

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect diagnostic cable to SSM and insert appropriate cartridge. Locate and connect Green test connector leads together. See Figure, Figure and Figure .
  2. Connect SSM to 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) located under left side of instrument panel. See Figure, Figure and Figure . Turn ignition and SSM on.
  3. To enter actuator test mode, select {2. Each System Check} on <Main Menu> display screen and press [YES] key. On <System Selection Menu> display screen, select {Engine Control System} and press [YES] key. After display shows engine type, press [YES] key. On <Engine Diagnosis> display screen, select {System Operation Check Mode} and press [YES] key. On <System Operation Check Mode> display screen, select {Actuator ON/OFF Operation} and press [YES] key. Use scroll keys to move display up or down to select desired actuator on {Actuator ON/OFF Operation} display screen and press [YES] key. For detailed instructions for use of SSM, refer to SSM Operation Manual. Pressing [NO] key completes compulsory operation check mode. Display will return to <Actuator ON/OFF Operation> screen.
