Using Subaru Select Monitor (SSM)
- Turn ignition off. Connect diagnostic cable to SSM and insert appropriate cartridge. Connect SSM to 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) located under left side of instrument panel. See Figure, Figure and Figure . Turn ignition and SSM on.
- To read DTCs in normal mode, select {2. Each System Check} on <Main Menu> display screen and press [YES] key. On <System Selection Menu> display screen, select {Engine Control System} and press [YES] key. After display shows engine type, press [YES] key. On <Engine Diagnosis> display screen, select {Diagnostic Code(s) Display} and press [YES] key. On <Diagnostic Code(s) Display> display screen, select {Current Diagnostic Code(s)} or {History Diagnostic Code(s)} and press [YES] key. DTCs stored in ECM memory should be displayed. - To read DTCs in OBD mode, select {2. Each System Check} on <Main Menu> display screen and press [YES] key. On <System Selection Menu> display screen, select {Engine Control System} and press [YES] key. After display shows engine type, press [YES] key.
- On <Engine Diagnosis> display screen, select {OBD System} and press [YES] key. On <OBD Menu> display screen, select {Diagnosis Code(s) Display} and press [YES] key. - The SSM can also be used to retrieve current engine data in either normal or OBD modes, read engine freeze frame data in OBD mode, read oxygen sensor monitoring test results data for engine in OBD mode, monitor LED operation mode for engine signals, and read current data for automatic transaxle (if equipped). To read current engine data in normal mode, select {2. Each System Check} on <Main Menu> display screen and press [YES] key. On <System Selection Menu> display screen, select {Engine Control System} and press [YES] key. After display shows engine type, press [YES] key. On <Engine Diagnosis> display screen, select {Current Data Display & Save} and press [YES] key. On <Data Display Menu> display screen, select {Data Display} and press [YES] Key. - To read oxygen sensor monitoring test results data for engine in OBD mode, select {2. Each System Check} on <Main Menu> display screen and press [YES] key. On <System Selection Menu> display screen, select {Engine Control System} and press [YES] key. After display shows engine type, press [YES] key. On <Engine Diagnosis> display screen, select {OBD System} and press [YES] key. On <OBD Menu> display screen, select {O2 Sensor Monitor} and press [YES] Key. On <O2 Sensor Select> display screen, select {Bank 1-Sensor 1} or {Bank 1-Sensor 2} and press [YES] key. Bank 1-Sensor 1 indicates front oxygen sensor (Air/Fuel ratio sensor) and Bank 1-Sensor 2 indicates rear oxygen sensor. Use the scroll keys to move display up or down to view desired engine data. - To monitor LED operation mode for engine signals, select {2. Each System Check} on <Main Menu> display screen and press [YES] key. On <System Selection Menu> display screen, select {Engine Control System} and press [YES] key. After display shows engine type, press [YES] key. On <Engine Diagnosis> display screen, select {Current Data Display & Save} and press [YES] key. On <Data Display Menu> display screen, select {Data & LED Display} and press [YES] Key. - To read current automatic transaxle data, select {2. Each System Check} on <Main Menu> display screen and press [YES] key. On <System Selection Menu> display screen, select {Transmission Control System} and press [YES] key. After display shows engine type, press [YES] key. On <Transmission Diagnosis> display screen, select {Current Data Display & Save} and press [YES] key. On <Data Display Menu> display screen, select {Data Display} and press [YES] Key.
