Drive Pinion Shaft Assembly: Removal

CAUTION: The specifications of drive pinion retainer parts vary depending on transmission serial No. When replacing the following parts, be sure to check the serial number before replacing.
  • Drive pinion retainer
Transmission serial No. 96892 earlier 334608 earlier 96893 later 334609 later
Drive pinion retainer 32290AA020 32290AA021 can also be used. 32290AA021
Transmission serial No. 96735 earlier 96736 later
Drive pinion retainer 32290AA030 32290AA031 can also be used. 32290AA031
  1. Remove the transmission assembly from the vehicle. Refer to REMOVAL .
  2. Remove the air breather hose. Refer to REMOVAL .
  3. Remove the control valve body. Refer to REMOVAL .
  4. Remove the transmission harness. Refer to REMOVAL .
  5. Remove the turbine speed sensor. Refer to REMOVAL .
  6. Remove the secondary speed sensor. Refer to REMOVAL .
  7. Remove the primary speed sensor. Refer to REMOVAL .
  8. Remove the inhibitor switch. Refer to REMOVAL .
  9. Remove the extension case. Refer to REMOVAL .
  10. Remove the transfer clutch assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
  11. Remove the transfer driven gear assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
  12. Remove the parking pawl. Refer to REMOVAL .
  13. Remove the reduction driven gear assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
  14. Remove the oil pan and oil strainer. Refer to REMOVAL .
  15. Remove the transmission control device. Refer to REMOVAL .
  16. Remove the transmission case. Refer to REMOVAL .
  17. Remove the reduction drive gear. Refer to REMOVAL .
  18. Remove the primary pulley, secondary pulley and variator chain. Refer to REMOVAL .
  19. Remove the reverse brake assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
  20. Remove the forward clutch assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
  21. Using the ST, remove the drive pinion retainer.

    ST 18270KA020 SOCKET (E20)

  22. Remove the O-ring.
