Ignition Coil And Spark Plug (Fa20): Removal

  1. Hood sub-assembly setting (Refer to REMOVAL )
  2. Disconnection of the battery ground terminal (Refer to WORKING PRECAUTIONS AND NOTES )
  3. Front strut tower bar LH removal (Refer to FRONT STRUT TOWER BAR )
  4. Front strut tower bar RH removal (Refer to INSTALLATION )
  5. Air cleaner case sub-assembly removal (Refer to REMOVAL )
  6. Engine wiring disconnection
    1. Release the four clamps and disconnect the engine wiring.

    2. Remove the bolt and three clamps, and then disconnect the engine wiring.

  7. Removal of exhaust manifold (Refer to REMOVAL )
  8. Disconnection of front crossmember sub-assembly
    1. Remove the 2 nuts on the engine mount.

  9. Installation of SST
    1. Tie the exhaust pipe sub-assembly FR to the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly with the rope.
      NOTE: This operation is required to avoid dropping the exhaust pipe sub-assembly FR.

    2. Install the SST to the cylinder block.

      SST 12281-38150, 90119-14120

      Standard value: T=43N.m {439kgf.cm} {31.7ft.lbf}

    3. Release the clamp and disconnect the engine wiring.

      NOTE: This procedure is required to prevent the engine wiring from damaging.
    4. Install the SST to the vehicle.

      SST 99099AJ000, 18679AA020

      CAUTION:
      • When installing the SST to the vehicle, do not damage the engine wiring.
      • Use a shackle with the load capacity of 250 kg (551 lb) or more.
    5. Lift the engine assembly a little bit at a time until the stud bolt of the engine mount is removed from the front crossmember.
      CAUTION:
      • To avoid the damage to the SST, apply grease or lubricant to the threaded portion.
      • To avoid the damage to the vehicle and parts, perform lifting operation a little bit at a time while checking the clearance in each part.
      • Lift the engine until the intake manifold (#4) slightly comes in contact with the A/C suction hose.
      • Insert a cloth between the intake manifold (#4) and the A/C suction hose to protect each part.
    6. Install the SST between engine mount and front crossmember.

  10. Removal of intake manifold protector (bank 2 side)
    1. Remove the bolt, and disconnect the fuel hose bracket.

    2. Remove 2 bolts, and remove the intake manifold protector (bank 2 side).

  11. Removal of ignition coil assembly (bank 2 side)
    1. Disconnect 2 connectors for the ignition coil assembly.
      NOTE: Slide the connectors in the direction of the arrow using a tool such as a clip remover while pressing the spring (a) shown in the figure.

    2. Remove 2 bolts, and remove 2 ignition coil assemblys.

  12. Removal of spark plug (bank 2 side)
    1. Remove the two spark plugs.

  13. Removal of injector driver (Refer to INJECTOR DRIVER (FA20) )
  14. Removal of ignition coil assembly (bank 1 side)
    1. Disconnect 2 connectors for the ignition coil assembly.
      NOTE: Slide the connectors in the direction of the arrow using a tool such as a clip remover while pressing the spring (a) shown in the figure.

    2. Remove 2 bolts, and remove 2 ignition coil assemblys.

  15. Removal of spark plug (bank 1 side)
    1. Remove the two spark plugs.
