Repair Contents: Note: Battery

When removing the battery or disconnecting the battery terminal, always be sure to turn the ignition switch to OFF and disconnect the ground terminal of the 12V engine restart battery sensor (except for hybrid model) or battery negative terminal (hybrid model) first.

When removing the battery or disconnecting the battery terminal, power supply is cut off and the information stored in the computer memory is volatilized. Therefore, setting information of some devices is initialized to the factory default. The device and functions initialized by removing battery are as follows.

No. Item Job contents when connecting battery
1 Clock Set the clock to the current time.
2 MFD Set to the contents checked before disconnecting the battery.
3 Audio (settings that the customer set) Set to the contents checked before disconnecting the battery.
4 Navigation system (settings that the customer set)
  • Time setting is not necessary because the time information is received via GPS.
  • Set the sound and other settings (items that were set in the selection) to the contents checked before disconnecting the battery.
5 Temperature setting of fully automatic air conditioner (settings that the customer set) Set to the contents checked before disconnecting the battery.
6 Steering lock system (model with keyless access with push button start) If the engine does not start, initialize the steering lock system. For the initialization procedure, refer to "KEYLESS ACCESS WITH PUSH BUTTON START SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTICS)" section. Ref. to KEYLESS ACCESS WITH PUSH BUTTON START (DIAGNOSTICS)>Diagnostics with Phenomenon>INSPECTION>ENGINE DOES NOT START .
7 EyeSight (model with EyeSight) Set to the contents checked before disconnecting the battery.
8 Electronic throttle system Turn the ignition switch to ON, wait for 10 seconds or more, and start the engine.
9 Engine control system Except for hybrid model
  • Let the engine run at idle until it fully warms up (the radiator fan turns 2 times or more) under no electrical load condition.
  • After connecting the ground terminal to the 12V engine restart battery sensor, wait for 10 seconds or more and turn the ignition switch to ON.

Hybrid model
  • Perform the initial learning operation (A/F and AVCS) in the following procedure.
  1. After the battery ground terminal is connected, wait for 10 seconds or more to turn the ignition switch to ON.
  2. After turning the ignition switch to ON, activate the "Service mode".
  3. After activating the "Service mode", set to READY_ON and start the engine.
  4. Let the engine run in P range until it fully warms up (the radiator fan starts turning).
  5. Shift the selector lever to D range and confirm the engine stops.
  6. If the engine does not stop, shift the lever to P range again and leave undone for five minutes, then repeat the procedures from Step  5. (Perform Steps 5 and 6 until the engine stops.)
  7. When confirming the engine stops, turn the ignition switch to OFF to terminate the procedure.
10 Telematics Perform the Bluetooth connection procedure between head unit (without navigation) and smartphone. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BLUETOOTH CONNECTION PROCEDURE BETWEEN HEAD UNIT (AUDIO WITHOUT NAVIGATION) AND SMARTPHONE .

Except for hybrid model

  1. Disconnect the ground terminal from 12V engine restart battery sensor.

NOTE: Open the trunk or rear gate as necessary before disconnecting the ground terminal from the 12V engine restart battery sensor.
  2. Connect the ground terminal to 12V engine restart battery sensor.
NOTE:
  • Install the 12V engine restart battery sensor while holding it by hand to prevent rotating.
  • Clean the battery cable terminals and apply grease to retard the formation of corrosion.
  • Connect the positive terminal of the battery, and then connect the ground terminal to the 12V engine restart battery sensor.
  • Some DTCs may be detected, so after connecting the ground terminal to the 12V engine restart battery sensor, wait for 10 seconds or more and then turn the ignition switch to ON.
  • After the battery is installed, initial diagnosis of the electronic throttle control is performed. Wait for 10 seconds or more after turning the ignition switch to ON, and then start the engine.
  • For battery replacement procedures, refer to "STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DO)" instructions. Refer to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>BATTERY .

Hybrid model

  1. Disconnect the ground terminal from the battery (12 V).

NOTE: Open the rear gate as necessary before disconnecting the ground terminal from the battery.
  2. Connect the ground terminal to the battery (12 V).
NOTE:
  • Install the 12V engine restart battery sensor while holding it by hand to prevent rotating.
  • Clean the battery cable terminals and apply grease to retard the formation of corrosion.
  • Connect the positive terminal, and then connect the negative terminal of the battery.
  • Since DTCs may be detected, after the battery ground terminal is connected, wait for 10 seconds or more to turn the ignition switch to ON.
  • After connecting the battery ground terminal, the following operations are automatically performed in the vehicle.
    • Initial diagnosis of electronic throttle control
    • Learning control of brake pedal stroke sensor

Therefore, before starting the engine, be sure to place the select lever in "P" position, turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait at least 10 seconds without depressing the brake pedal.

  • For battery replacement procedures, refer to "STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DO (HEV))" instructions. Refer to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DO (HEV))>BATTERY .
