Engine Assembly: Installation

  1. Using the ST1, install the ST2 to the engine unit.

    Preparation tool: 

    ST1: BOLT (18363AA050)

    ST2: HANGER (18360AA040)

    Tightening torque: 

    43 N.m (4.4 kgf-m, 31.7 ft-lb)

  2. Install the engine mounting onto the engine.

    Tightening torque: 

    35 N.m (3.6 kgf-m, 25.8 ft-lb)

  3. Position the engine in engine compartment and align it with transmission.
    NOTE: Be careful not to damage adjacent parts or body panels with crank pulley, oil level gauge, etc.
  4. With a lifting device and a garage jack, slowly lower the engine.
  5. Install the bolts which hold upper side of transmission to engine.

    Tightening torque: 

    50 N.m (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb)

  6. Remove the garage jack.
  7. Remove the lifting device and wire ropes.
  8. Remove the ST1 and ST2 from the engine unit.

  9. Install the torque converter to drive plate.
    1. Remove the ST from converter case.
      NOTE: Be careful not to drop the ST into the converter housing when removing the ST.

    2. Insert the wrench into the crank pulley bolt, and rotate the crank pulley to attach the four bolts securing the torque converter to the drive plate.
      NOTE: Be careful not to drop bolts into the converter housing.

      Tightening torque: 

      25 N.m (2.5 kgf-m, 18.4 ft-lb)

    3. Fit the plug to service hole.

  10. Install the starter. Ref. to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DOTC)>Starter>INSTALLATION .
  11. Place the CVTF cooler (with warmer feature) to CVT, and temporarily tighten the upper bolt which secures the CVTF cooler (with warmer feature).

  12. Lift up the vehicle.
  13. Install the bolts and nuts which hold lower side of the transmission to engine.

    Tightening torque: 

    50 N.m (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb)

  14. Install the nuts which hold the engine mounting to the crossmember COMPL front.
    CAUTION: Be sure to use a new nut.
    NOTE: Make sure that locators (a) of the engine mounting are securely inserted.

    Tightening torque: 

    90 N.m (9.2 kgf-m, 66.4 ft-lb)

  15. Connect the ground cord.

    Tightening torque: 

    7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

  16. Install the lower bolt which secures CVTF cooler (with warmer feature) to the CVT and connect the CVTF cooler (with warmer feature) water hose.

    Tightening torque: 

    23 N.m (2.3 kgf-m, 17.0 ft-lb)

  17. Install the front exhaust pipe.
  18. Tighten the upper bolt which secures the CVTF cooler (with warmer feature) to the CVT.

    Tightening torque: 

    23 N.m (2.3 kgf-m, 17.0 ft-lb)

  19. Connect the fuel delivery tube and evaporation hose.
    1. Connect the quick connector on the fuel delivery tube (C) to the fuel pipe, and install clip (B) to the intake manifold assembly.
      CAUTION:
      • Check that there is no damage or dust on the quick connector. If necessary, clean the seal surface of the pipe.
      • When connecting the quick connector, make sure to insert it all the way in before locking the slider.
      • When it is difficult to lock the slider, check that the connector is fully inserted.
      • After locking the slider, pull the quick connector body in the removal direction and then push it in the connecting direction, in order to check that the quick connector is securely connected. Always make sure to perform this confirmation ending up with a pushing in.
      NOTE: Connect the quick connector as shown in the figure.

    2. Connect the evaporation hose (A) to the vacuum pipe assembly.

  20. Place the vacuum pipe, and connect the brake booster vacuum hose (B) to the brake vacuum pump.
    NOTE: When connecting the brake booster vacuum hose, align the alignment marks (a) on the brake booster vacuum hose and the vacuum pump.

  21. Connect the water hose (A) to the CVTF cooler (with warmer feature).

  22. Install the pitching stopper. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR6901)>Transmission Mounting System>INSTALLATION>PITCHING STOPPER .
  23. Install the bolts securing the vacuum pipe to the engine rear hanger.

    Tightening torque: 

    18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.3 ft-lb)

  24. Install the clip (D), clip (E) and clip (F), and connect connector (A), connector (B) and connector (C).

  25. Connect the heater inlet hose (A) and the heater outlet hose (B).
    NOTE: Be careful not to mix up the heater inlet hose and the heater outlet hose when connecting them.

  26. Set the engine wiring harness and secure the engine wiring harness to the bracket with the claw.

  27. Install the engine wiring harness to the clip (A), and connect the connector (B).
  28. Connect the connector (C) and connector (D) in numerical order shown in figure.

  29. Set the battery cable assembly, and secure the battery cable assembly with claw (B) and clip (A).

  30. Connect the hose - pressure suction and the hose - pressure discharge to the A/C compressor. Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER>Hose and Pipe>INSTALLATION .
  31. Secure the battery cable assembly with the clip (A) and clip (B).
  32. Connect the connector (C), connector (D), connector (E), and the terminal (F).

    Tightening torque: 

    15.5 N.m (1.6 kgf-m, 11.4 ft-lb)

  33. Install the intake duct No. 1 and intake duct No. 2.

    Intake duct No. 1:  Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DOTC)>Intake Duct>INSTALLATION>INTAKE DUCT NO. 1 .

    Intake duct No. 2:  Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DOTC)>Intake Duct>INSTALLATION>INTAKE DUCT NO. 2 .

  34. Install the intercooler. Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DOTC)>Intercooler>INSTALLATION .
  35. Install the radiator. Ref. to COOLING (H4DOTC)>Radiator>INSTALLATION .
  36. Connect the ground terminal to battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
  37. Install the fuel filler cap, and close the fuel filler lid.
  38. Fill engine coolant. Ref. to COOLING (H4DOTC)>Engine Coolant>REPLACEMENT>FILLING OF ENGINE COOLANT .
  39. Set the hood COMPL front to the normal position. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>STAY ASSEMBLY FRONT HOOD .
  40. Install the striker assembly front hood. Ref. to EXTERIOR BODY PANELS>Front Hood>ASSEMBLY .
  41. Close the hood COMPL front.
