Converter Case Cover: Installation

  1. Clean the mating surface of converter case cover and converter case.
  2. Adjust the front reduction drive gear shim. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Front Reduction Drive Gear>ADJUSTMENT .
  3. Adjust the front reduction driven gear shim (front side). Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Front Reduction Driven Gear>ADJUSTMENT .
  4. Apply CVTF to the selected front reduction driven gear shim (front side) and install on the bearing catch surface of the front reduction driven gear.
  5. Using the ST, install a new ball bearing to the converter case cover.
    CAUTION:
    • Be sure to apply CVTF to press-fitting surface of ball bearing.
    • Use SUBARU genuine CVTF.

    Preparation tool: 

    ST: PRESS SNAP RING (499755602)

  6. Install a new O-ring.
    CAUTION:
    • Before installing O-rings, apply sufficient amount of CVTF to avoid damage and deformation.
    • Use SUBARU genuine CVTF.
    • Be careful not to incorrectly install or fail to install O-rings and other such parts.
  7. Apply CVTF to the selected front reduction drive gear shim and install on the bearing catch surface of the front reduction drive gear.
  8. Install a new seal ring to converter case cover.
    CAUTION:
    • Before installing seal rings, apply sufficient amount of CVTF to avoid damage and deformation.
    • Use SUBARU genuine CVTF.
    • When installing the seal rings, do not expand the seal rings too much.
  9. Apply liquid gasket seamlessly to the mating surface of converter case cover, and temporarily install it.

    Liquid gasket: 

    THREE BOND 1215B or equivalent

  10. Tighten the converter case cover mounting bolts.

    Tightening torque: 

    24 N.m (2.4 kgf-m, 17.7 ft-lb)

  11. Install the oil pump chain cover and the oil pump chain. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Oil Pump Chain>INSTALLATION .
  12. Flip over the converter case cover.
  13. Install the oil stopper plate and lubrication pipe.

    Tightening torque: 

    9 N.m (0.9 kgf-m, 6.6 ft-lb)

  14. Install the drive pinion. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Drive Pinion>INSTALLATION .
  15. Install the primary pulley, secondary pulley and variator chain. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Primary Pulley and Secondary Pulley>INSTALLATION .
  16. Install the transmission case. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Transmission Case>INSTALLATION .
  17. Install the forward clutch. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Forward Clutch>INSTALLATION .
  18. Install the intermediate case. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Intermediate Case>INSTALLATION .
  19. Install the transfer reduction driven gear. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Transfer Reduction Driven Gear>INSTALLATION .
  20. Install the transfer clutch. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Transfer Clutch>INSTALLATION .
  21. Install the rear drive shaft. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Rear Drive Shaft>INSTALLATION .
  22. Install the extension case. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Extension Case>INSTALLATION .
  23. Install the transmission harness. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Transmission Harness>INSTALLATION .
  24. Install the control valve body and oil pan. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Control Valve Body>INSTALLATION .
  25. Install the air breather hose. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Air Breather Hose>INSTALLATION .
  26. Install the transmission body. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>Transmission Assembly>INSTALLATION .
