Bi-Metallic Vacuum Solenoid Valve (BVSV)

  1. Disconnect vacuum hoses connected to BVSV. Connect test hose to upper hose connector. With engine temperature below 127°F (53°C), blow into test hose. Air should not escape from lower hose connector pipe. Warm engine to 149°F (65°C). Blow into test hose again, checking that air escapes from lower hose connector.

  2. This test can also be made by removing BVSV from intake manifold and placing in a pan of water. See Fig 1 . The procedure is virtually identical using a cold pan of water, then heating the water to the recommended temperature. If BVSV is found to be defective, replace with a new unit.
