Electronic Control Module Ground Circuit

  1. The ECM system is grounded at the dash panel and the intake manifold. If either ground is bad, the system will not operate. To check ground circuit, turn ignition off and disconnect ECM connector. Using an ohmmeter connect one probe to terminal No. 1 of connector and the other probe to body ground. See Figure . Measure resistance.
  2. Move probe from terminal No. 1 to terminal No. 21 leaving other probe connected to body ground. Measure resistance. Ohmmeter should read zero resistance at both terminals. If any resistance is measured, check for a disconnected or dirty ground.
