Input & Output Shafts
NOTE:
Ensure bearings are okay before performing adjustments. Ensure measurements are accurate. Failure to do so will result in oil leakage, damaged bearing and abnormal noise. Measure distances at 3 or 4 points to ensure accuracy.
Measure distance "A", using a straightedge and vernier caliper. See Fig 1 . Measure distance "B" with snap ring installed. Measure distance "C", between bearing inner races, with bearings installed. To obtain shim thickness, use the following formula:
- ("A" + "B"+ Gasket Thickness) - "C" = Thrust Clearance.
- ("A" + "B" + Gasket Thickness) - ("C" + Thrust Clearance) = Shim Thickness.
Shim thicknesses are available in sizes .004" (.10 mm), .012" (.30 mm) and .020" (.50 mm). Place shims between input shaft rear bearing and rear case. Perform the same procedure to obtain output shaft shaft shim thickness. Place shim between output shaft rear bearing and rear case.
