Coolant Temperature Switch

  1. Drain cooling system. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove temperature switch connector and switch. Switch is located in intake manifold coolant passage. Place sensor in a container filled with water. Heat or cool water to 86°F (30°C). Using an ohmmeter, check resistance across sensor terminals. Continuity should exist.
  2. Heat water in container to 116°F (46.5°C) and recheck resistance of switch. No continuity should exist. If switch does not respond as indicated, replace switch.
