Secondary Throttle Control Solenoid
- Disconnect 2 vacuum hoses from solenoid. Install 2 short sections of hose. With ignition off, blow through one hose. Air should not pass through. Turn ignition on. DO NOT start engine. Fully depress accelerator pedal to activate WOT switch. Blow into one of the short hoses. Air should pass out other hose on solenoid 5-6 seconds after depressing accelerator pedal.
- If solenoid does not respond as described, turn ignition off. Disconnect solenoid connector. Using an ohmmeter, check solenoid resistance. Continuity should exist; however, zero ohms of resistance indicates a shorted solenoid. Turn ignition on. Check Black/White wire of solenoid harness for battery voltage.
- If battery voltage is not present, inspect 15-amp ignition fuse. Fuse delivers power to ignition coil, terminal No. 13 of control unit, and all solenoids. Energize solenoid by applying battery voltage to Black/White wire solenoid terminal and ground to Blue/Yellow wire solenoid terminal.
- Blow through one hose. Air should pass through solenoid while energized. If air does not pass through solenoid, replace solenoid. If air does pass through solenoid, check Blue/Yellow wire for open between solenoid and control unit.
