Oxygen Sensor

  1. Start engine and warm to operating temperature. Pull back connector seal at oxygen sensor. Using a digital voltmeter with at least a 10-megohm input impedance, backprobe oxygen sensor connector. If connector is inaccessible, backprobe control unit at appropriate terminal. See CONTROL UNIT OXYGEN SENSOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  table.
  2. Increase engine speed to about 2000 RPM and hold for about 60 seconds. Monitor voltmeter reading. Voltmeter should fluctuate between zero and one volt, without being constantly high or low. If voltage is not as indicated, go to CODE 13 chart in TESTS W/CODES article in this section.
