Pick-Up Coil

  1. With ignition off, disconnect Yellow ECM connector. Using voltmeter, backprobe positive lead to terminal "B1" of ECM Green connector (still connected to ECM). Backprobe negative lead to terminal "A13" of disconnected Yellow ECM connector.
  2. Remove distributor cap, rotor, and shield cover. Check voltmeter reading when reluctor "window" is between magnet and Hall effect pick-up coil. Voltmeter reading should be zero volts.
  3. Turn reluctor so that window is not between magnet and Hall element pick-up coil, thus breaking magnetic field. Voltmeter reading should be battery voltage.
  4. If results are not as indicated, inspect wiring and connections and repair as required. If wiring is okay, replace Hall element pick-up coil (crank angle sensor).
