Fuel Pressure Test

  1. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE  under FUEL SYSTEM in this article. Attach Pressure Gauge Set (09912-58412) at fuel filter inlet union. See Fig 1 . Start engine and ensure there is no leakage at pressure gauge connection, turn engine off.
  2. To operate fuel pump with engine off, jumper wire Pink/Black and Black/White fuel pump relay wires. See FUEL PUMP RELAY LOCATION  table. Turn ignition on. Measure and record fuel pressure with pump operating and engine off. Turn ignition off, and allow one minute for fuel pressure to reduce. Measure and record minimum (rest) fuel pressure. See the FUEL PUMP PERFORMANCE  table.
  3. Remove jumper wire from fuel pump relay and start engine. Measure and record fuel pressure with pump operating and engine running at idle. Turn ignition off, and allow one minute for fuel pressure to reduce. Measure and record minimum (rest) fuel pressure. See REGULATED FUEL PRESSURE  table.
  4. If pressures are not within specification, check for defective fuel pump, pressure regulator or restriction in fuel system. Repair as required. Remove fuel pressure gauge and start engine to ensure that no fuel leakage exists.
