Pick-Up Coil

  1. Disconnect secondary coil wire from distributor cap and attach end terminal to ground. Remove distributor cap and rotor. Ensure that reluctor tooth is NOT aligned with pick-up coil. See Fig 1 . Using voltmeter, attach positive lead to ignition coil negative terminal and negative lead to ground. Turn ignition on.
  2. Voltmeter should read 12 volts. Repeatedly insert and remove flat-blade screwdriver between signal reluctor and pick-up coil. Each time screwdriver is inserted, voltmeter should fluctuate up to one volt. If voltmeter does not fluctuate, replace pick-up coil.
