Spark Test

  1. Using ohmmeter, ensure spark plug wire resistance of each wire is 3,000-6,700 ohms per 12" (10,000-22,000 ohms per meter).
  2. Remove coil wire from distributor cap. Use high output spark tester or hold coil wire terminal end 5/16" from an engine ground while cranking engine with clutch pedal fully depressed. Check for strong Blue spark from coil wire. Check for spark from each spark plug wire. If spark plug wires resistance tested okay but still no spark, go to step 4).
  3. On Swift DOHC, before cranking engine, disconnect injector connector at wiring harness near engine oil dipstick. To test spark plug wires, use high output spark tester or equivalent. If spark plug wires resistance tested okay but still no spark, go to next step. Hold coil or spark plug wire with insulated pliers or use high output spark tester to prevent electrical shock.
  4. Disconnect and inspect all related ignition system connectors and harness. Clean or repair as required and recheck spark. If spark plug wires still have no spark, go to appropriate next steps.
