Fuel Pump Circuit Test (Sidekick)
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Fuel pump should operate for 2 seconds. If fuel pump does not operate, using jumper wire, connect Pink/Black and Black/White wires of fuel pump/control relay. See FUEL PUMP RELAY LOCATION table. If fuel pump operates, go to next step. If fuel pump does not operate, go to step 5).
- If fuel pump operates with jumper wire installed, check for power at Black/Yellow and Black/Green wire terminals of fuel pump/control relay while engine is cranking. If power is NOT present at Black/Green wire terminal, replace control relay. If power is NOT present at Black/Yellow wire terminal, check starter circuit wiring. See appropriate WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Check for power at Pink wire terminal of fuel pump control relay. If power is NOT present, replace relay. If power is present at Pink wire terminal of fuel pump control relay, check for power at Pink wire terminal B16 of ECM connector. If power is not present, repair Pink wiring circuit from ECM to fuel pump control relay. If power is present at Pink wire terminal B16 of ECM connector, ground Pink wire at ECM connector, fuel pump should operate. If fuel pump does not operate, check for power at fuel pump Pink/Black wire terminal. If fuel pump has power, check ground circuit. If ground circuit is okay, replace fuel pump.
- If grounding Pink wire terminal B16 at ECM connector, fuel pump does operate, check ignition system signal to ECM for problem. See TESTS W/CODES article.
- If fuel pump did not operate in step 1), check for power at Black/White wire terminal of fuel pump control relay. If power is NOT present, check for power at fuse No. 8 and in Black/White wiring circuit to fuel pump control relay, repair as required. See appropriate WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
