Repair and Diagnosis: Electrical: Starter: Description
Two types of starter motors are used, conventional and reduction. Both types of starters consist of a starter motor assembly and separate plunger-style solenoid (magnetic switch). Solenoid is activated when the ignition switch is turned to the START position, causing a yoke to engage the starter pinion with the flywheel. See Figure and Figure . In addition, the reduction type starter has a reduction gear assembly with a shock absorber mechanism.
