Idle Speed & Ignition Timing

Ensure idle speed and base ignition timing are set to specification. If necessary, see ADJUSTMENTS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.

(1) Idle speed specification is with transaxle or transmission in Neutral or Park.
(2) The A/C idle speed is adjusted by rotating adjusting screw on the A/C Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV).
IGNITION TIMING (Degrees BTDC @ RPM)

DOHC (1) 5-7 @ 800-900 (1) 5-7 @ 800-900
SOHC (2) 5-7 @ 600-700 (2) 5-7 @ 700-800
(1) Specification is listed with jumper wire installed between terminals "C" and "D" (Black and Violet/Green wires) of test connector, located near ignition coil.
(2) Specification is listed with vacuum hose disconnected from distributor. With hose connected, timing should be 11-13 degrees BTDC.
