Idle Speed & Ignition Timing

Ensure idle speed and base ignition timing are set to specification. If necessary, see ADJUSTMENTS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.

IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS (1)

M/T (3) (2) 700-800
A/T & M/T (4) 850-950
(1) Idle speed specification is with transaxle or transmission in Neutral or Park.
(2) A/C idle speed is adjusted by rotating adjusting screw on A/C Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV).
(3) When ECM part number ends with "0".
(4) When ECM part number ends with number other than "0".
IGNITION TIMING (Degrees BTDC @ RPM)

DOHC (1) 5-7 @ 800-900 (1) 5-7 @ 800-900
SOHC (1) 4-6 @ 750 (1) 4-6 @ 850
(1) With jumper wire installed between terminals "D" and "E" of test connector, located near ignition coil. See Figure & 2.
