Pick-Up Coil: DOHC
- Disconnect pick-up coil connector at distributor. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between 2 upper terminals. See Fig 1
. See PICK-UP COIL RESISTANCE
table. Replace pick-up coil if resistance is not within specification. If resistance is within specification, go to next step.
- Ensure pick-up coil has battery voltage. Disconnect pick-up coil connector at distributor. With ignition on and using voltmeter, ensure battery voltage exists at Brown/White wire terminal of connector. If voltage is not present, check wiring and connections to ECM and check ECM power supply. Repair as required. Ensure ignition coil has power. See IGNITOR (POWER UNIT)
.
- If ignition coil and pick-up coil test okay, recheck for spark. If spark is still not available, go to TESTS W/CODES
article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section to retrieve stored codes. Use feeler gauge to check air gap. See PICK-UP COIL AIR GAP
table. If gap is not correct, loosen signal generator mount screws and move generator to adjust air gap.
