Camshaft/Crankshaft Position Sensor

NOTE: Camshaft/Crankshaft Position (CMP/CKP) sensor may also be known as pick-up coil or Hall Effect sensor.
  1. Disconnect connector at distributor. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between 2 upper terminals. See Fig 1 . Refer to the CMP/CKP SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. Replace coil if resistance is not within specification. If resistance is within specification, go to next step.
  2. If ignition coil and pick-up coil test okay, use feeler gauge to check air gap. See PICK-UP COIL AIR GAP table. If gap is not correct, loosen signal generator mount screws and move generator to adjust air gap. Recheck for spark. If spark is still not available, go to TESTS W/CODES - 1.3L DOHC article in this section to retrieve stored codes.
