Camshaft/Crankshaft Position Sensor

NOTE: Camshaft/Crankshaft Position (CMP/CKP) sensor may also be known as pick-up coil or Hall Effect sensor.
  1. Disconnect connector at distributor. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between terminals. See Fig 1 . See CMP/CKP SENSOR RESISTANCE table. Replace coil if resistance is not within specification. If resistance is within specification, go to next step.
  2. If ignition coil and pick-up coil test okay, use feeler gauge to check air gap. See PICK-UP COIL AIR GAP table. If gap is not correct, loosen signal generator mount screws and move generator to adjust air gap. Recheck for spark. If spark is still not available, go to the TESTS W/CODES article to retrieve stored codes.
