Steering Column: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. If necessary, remove air bag inflator module, steering wheel, clockspring coil/combination switch. See DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG INFLATOR MODULE and CLOCKSPRING COIL & COMBINATION SWITCH .
- Remove steering column hole cover and knee bolster. Remove upper universal joint pinch bolt. Separate upper and lower steering shafts. Unplug wiring connectors to steering column.
- Remove steering column mounting nuts. On A/T equipped models, remove shift interlock cable clamp screw at rear of ignition switch. Disconnect shift interlock cable from ignition switch. Pull steering column from vehicle.
NOTE:
Steering column and shaft are serviced as an assembly only. DO NOT
attempt to disassemble shaft from steering column.
