DTC 91 - Open Brake Switch During Deceleration: Notes

NOTE: For circuit and connector terminal identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  .

EBCM can detect an open stoplight switch circuit in the non-ABS mode. The EBCM looks for deceleration rates that would indicate braking action and verifies this assumption by requiring several repeats of this detection method. In each case, ABS would not be available since no stoplight switch input is seen.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Indicates if stoplight switch signal is being received by the EBCM.
  2. Indicates if an open circuit exists in the stoplight switch or the rear combination light circuit.
  3. Isolates the open circuit to either the stoplight switch input circuit or the EBCM.
  4. Verifies that voltage is available to the stoplight switch.
  5. Verifies that the stoplight switch is functioning properly.
