Fuel Pressure Test (Swift)

  1. Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE. Remove air cleaner from throttle body. Disconnect fuel hose from throttle body.
  2. Install fuel pressure gauge and 3-way connector in-line with fuel feed hose. See Fig 1 . Install air cleaner. Verify battery voltage is 11 volts or greater.
  3. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Observe and record fuel pressure. Compare specifications under all conditions. Refer to the appropriate FUEL PUMP PERFORMANCE  and REGULATED FUEL PRESSURE  tables. Turn ignition off. Recheck pressure after one minute.
  4. If pressure is not within specification, check for defective fuel pump, faulty pressure regulator or restriction in fuel system. See CIRCUIT TESTS  . Repair as necessary. Release fuel pressure and remove fuel pressure gauge. Reconnect fuel hoses and check for leaks.

FUEL PUMP PERFORMANCE

Application (1) psi (kg/cm2 )
Swift (2) 22.7-29.9 (1.6-2.1)
(1) Key on and engine off.
(2) Pressure should maintain at least 12.8 psi (.9 kg/cm2 ) for one minute after fuel pump is turned off.
REGULATED FUEL PRESSURE

Application (1) psi (kg/cm2 )
Swift (2) 12.8-20.0 (0.9-1.4)
(1) With engine idling.
(2) Pressure should maintain at least 12.8 psi (.9 kg/cm2 ) for one minute after fuel pump is turned off.
