Initialization Process
During initialization, the EBCM will perform self-diagnostics and verify motor, modulator, solenoid, relay and indicator light operation. If EBCM detects malfunction, a DTC will be stored and illuminate "ABS" warning lights(s).
Amber "ABS", Blue "ABS ACTIVE" and Red "BRAKE" warning lights are located on instrument panel. When ignition is turned on, ABS and ABS ACTIVE lights will illuminate for about 3 seconds. The Red "BRAKE" warning light will quickly flash on also. As engine is cranked Red "BRAKE" light and Amber "ABS" light should illuminate steady. Both lights should be off 3-4 seconds after engine is started.
Red "BRAKE" light will stay on if parking brake is on, brake fluid is low, and when ignition is on and engine is off. EBCM will also turn Red "BRAKE" light on when an ABS malfunction could interfere with normal brake operation. Since brake pedal feedback normally associated with ABS operation does not occur with ABS-VI, Blue "ABS ACTIVE" light will come on when vehicle in involved in an ABS stop. If Amber "ABS" light stays on, a malfunction is present in ABS system. If Amber "ABS" light flashes, ABS malfunction is affecting normal brake operation and EBCM cannot turn Red "BRAKE" light on. Anti-lock braking function will be disabled until system is repaired.
