Throttle Position (TP) Sensor: Swift

  1. Gain access to PCM. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Using a voltmeter, backprobe between PCM connector "B", terminals No. 6 (Light Green/White wire) and No. 9 (Light Green/Black wire). See THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR VOLTAGE  table.
  2. Ensure voltage increases smoothly as throttle opening increases. If voltage is not within specification, go to next step. If voltage is within specification, system has returned to normal.
  3. With voltage measurement equipment still in place, insert 0.14" (3.5 mm) feeler gauge between throttle stop and throttle lever. See Figure. Ensure ISC plunger is not contacting throttle lever screw. Loosen TP sensor screws and rotate back and forth until 0.98-1.02 volts is obtained. Tighten TP sensor screws to 14-21 INCH lbs. (1.6-2.4 N.m). Replace TP sensor if it cannot be adjusted to specification.
THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR VOLTAGE (1)

Application Volts
Sidekick 1.8L (2)
At Idle 0.35-0.65
At Wide Open Throttle 3.5-4.5
Swift (3)
With 0.140" (3.5 mm) Clearance At Stop Screw 0.98-1.02
(1) Ignition on and engine off.
(2) On models with manual transmission, backprobe between ground and PCM connector "B", terminal No. 17 (Green wire). On models with automatic transmission and/or EVAP-II, backprobe between ground and PCM connector "D", terminal No. 25 (Green wire).
(3) Using voltmeter, backprobe between PCM connector "B", terminals No. 6 (Light Green/White wire) and No. 9 (Light Green/Black wire).
