Sidekick 1.8L

  1. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Ensure all accessories are off and idle speed is within specification. Adjust idle speed first if it is not within specification. See ADJUSTMENTS article.
    CAUTION: Driving vehicle with jumper wire installed in test connector will damage catalytic converter.
  2. Jumper terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 5 (Blue/Red wire) of White test connector located next to left strut tower. Aim timing light at timing cover timing marks. If ignition timing is not within specification, loosen Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor hold-down screws and rotate sensor to obtain correct ignition timing. See ADJUSTMENTS article.
  3. Remove jumper wire from test connector. Ensure ignition timing advances with engine speed (RPM). If ignition timing does not advance, check TP sensor, test switch terminal circuit and PCM.
