Sidekick 1.8L
- Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Ensure all accessories are off and idle speed is within specification. Adjust idle speed first if it is not within specification. See IDLE SPEED under IDLE SPEED & MIXTURE.CAUTION: Driving with jumper wire installed in test connector will damage catalytic converter.
- Using a fused jumper wire, connect terminals No. 3 and 4 of monitor coupler, located next to left strut tower. See Fig 4. Aim timing light at timing cover timing marks. If ignition timing is not within specification, loosen Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor hold-down screws and rotate sensor to obtain correct ignition timing. See IGNITION TIMING table. Tighten CMP sensor hold-down screws to 11 ft. lbs. (15 N.m). Recheck ignition timing. Remove jumper wire.
