DTC P0106: Manifold Absolute Pressure (Map) Sensor Performance

NOTE: If DTC P1450 or P1451 is set, diagnose that DTC first.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Select MAP sensor parameter. Ensure MAP sensor value on scan tool indicates barometric pressure of about 100 kPa. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Momentarily increase engine speed to more than 3000 RPM, and return to idle. Record MAP sensor value. MAP sensor value should change by more than 33 kPa from key on engine off value of about 100 kPa. If MAP sensor value changes as specified, go to next step. If MAP sensor value does not change as specified, go to step  3 .
  2. Clear DTCs using scan tool. Operate vehicle within scan tool FREEZE FRAME conditions. If DTC P0106 resets, go to next step. If DTC P0106 does not reset, problem may be due to a freeze in vacuum passage or an intermittent connection. Go to INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  3. Check MAP sensor vacuum source for a leak or restriction. Ensure vacuum source supplies only MAP sensor. If a problem exists, repair as necessary. If a problem does not exist, go to next step.
  4. Test map sensor operation. Go to MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR - ESTEEM & SWIFT under ENGINE SENSORS & SWITCHES in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace map sensor as necessary. If map sensor tests as specified, check engine compression and ensure false air is not entering intake system. If no problems are found, replace PCM.
